A large-sized, epiphytic orchid up to a meter tall and wide, producing a clump of green, spindle-shaped pseudobulbs, which serve as a storage organs for water and nutrients. A pair of dark-green, stiff, evergreen leaves 25-70cm long and 4-11cm wide are carried at the tip of each mature pseudobulb. The orchid usually flowers in spring on pendulous stems up to one metre long, carrying up 60 flowers, spaced 2.5cm apart. Flowers are 4cm across and cream with a dark-brown pattern on a white lip
