A slow-growing, upright, dense, evergreen shrub to 1.5m tall, with neat, dark blue-green, deeply toothed, spiny leaves to 4cm long, the new foliage is light green, with red tints. Small white flowers appear in late spring, a good pollinator for female blue hollies
