A collection of upright biennial or short-lived perennials, to around 1.8m high, with rounded, lobed, slightly hairy green leaves. Tall spikes of flowers are produced in summer, in shades of white, pink, purple and red, with contrasting darker haloes in the centre

Cultivation

Thrives in well-drained, moderately fertile soil in full sun. May need support on exposed sites, see staking perennials

Propagation

Propagate by seed, sown in gentle heat in midwinter, or in situ in spring
