Bidens ferulifolia Blazing Fire
  • RHS Plants for pollinators

A striking half-hardy gently spreading or mounding short-lived perennial grown mostly as an annual and used in seasonal summer displays. Bright orange starry blooms have a bold splash of yellow-gold at the base of each petal. The flowers are fragrant and borne in profusion, covering the feathery mid-green to dark green foliage throughout summer and into early autumn. This modern cultivar is vigorous but stays compact if pinched out well when young.

How to grow

Cultivation

Grow on in warm frost free conditions. Acclimatise plants before planting outside in early summer. Pinch out growing points while the plants are small to encourage branching and more stems. Regular pinching will create a well balanced compact plant that is perfect for container cultivation. Will grow in any well drained soil in full sun.

Propagation

Propagate by softwood cuttings.
