A compact, medium-sized, bushy deciduous shrub with red shoots which open to dark green, turning to orange in the autumn. Violet-purple to dark pink flowers with crinkled petals are produced in large, terminal clusters in summer. Brown and grey peeling bark offers more interest throughout the year. Although semi-hardy, it may need protection in the winter in colder conditions
