Medium sized, evergreen, tropical orchid, valued for its bright-coloured, long-lasting flowers. As a typical example of monopodial orchid, the new growth emerges from the central tip on a long rhizome, covered compelety in leaf-bearing green sheaths. Strap-shaped, green or dark green leaves up to 30cm long angle out from the main stem. As new leaves grow at the top of the plant, old lower leaves gradually fall off. A characteristic feature of the plant is an impressive root system that hangs downwards at the base of the plant. New roots emerge from the central stem, following the ascending growing trend. Inflorescences emerge from the axils of leaves and the stem, and carry 6 - 8 flat, round-shaped, long-lasting flowers. Princess Mikasa is available in pink, white and blue forms, and with right conditions, it may flower up to 6 weeks, three times per year.
