A large-sized, evergreen, tropical epiphytic orchid, valued for its unsual, large, bright-coloured flowers. As a typical example of monopodial orchid, the new growth emerges from a central tip on a long, central rhizome, covered in leaf-bearing, green, alternate sheaths. Strap-shaped, green or dark green leaves, up to 60 cm long angle out from the main stem. As the new leaves develop at the top of the plant, old leaves, lower on the stem, gradually drop off. A characteristic feature is an impressive root system that hangs downwards at the base of the plant. New roots emerge from the central stem, following the ascending growing trend. Inflorescences emerge from axils of leaves and main stem and carry 10 or more large, waxy, round-shaped flowers. All petals and sepals are uniform in colour, size and shape. Distinctive for this hybrid is a regular mosaic pattern of dark purple lines on a white background.
