An evergreen, epiphytic orchid with elongated, upright, cane-like stems growing from a short rhizome. Each stem - pseudobulb is cylindrical, narrow at the base, broadening at the central part and carrying one, rarerly two firm, mid green leaves at the top. The leaves are broadly oval, leathery, up to 30cm long and 6cm wide. One or two flowers emerge on short, terminal stems on a young, mature growth between autumn and spring. Each flower measures up to 20cm across; the colours vary from white, pale pink to dark pink and yellow - depending on the cultivar.
