A large-sized, evergreen, tropical epiphytic orchid, valued for it unusual flowers. As a typical example of monopodial orchid, the new growth emerges from the cetral tip of the long, stem-like rhizome, covered in anternate, green, leaf-bearing sheats. Strap-like, green or dark green leaves up to 60cm long angle out from the main stem. As the new leaves appear from the top, old, lower leaves gradually fall off. A characteristic feature is is an impressive root system, hanging downwards from the base of plant. New roots emerge from the main stem, following the ascending growing trend. Multiple, long inflorescences emerge from axils of leaf sheaths and carry large number of butterfly-like, pale pink, or pale purple flowers. This primary hybrid is one of the first hybrids bred in Europe in 1920s. It produces large number of well-spaced, tesselated flowers, with petals twisted downwards. Lip is narrow, pink.
