A medium sized, evergreen, hot growing epiphytic orchid species. As a typical example of monopodial orchid, the new growth appears from the central tip on the long, stem-like rhizome, covered in leaf-bearing, green sheaths. Strap-shaped, green leaves angle out from the main stem. As the new leaves grow from the top, old, lower leaves gradually drop-off. A characteristic feature of the plant is a large roots system, formed at the base of the plant, providing anchor on the branches of trees. New roots emerge from the stem, following the ascending growing trend. 45cm long inflorescences emerge from the axils of leaves and carry up to 25, vaxy, fragrant, long-lasting flowers. Petals and sepals and disctinctively tilded backwards, with prominent column facing forwards. Small flowers, measuring 4cm across, are yellow or white, with many striped or spotted, brown markings. Three colour and shape varieties are accepted, occuring naturally in wild.
