A fast-growing, broadly conical tree with upright branches. Oval, toothed, smooth, glossy, dark green leaves to 8cm long, are red tinged when young and yellow green in autumn. Flowers rarely produced. A hybrid between Japanese and Siberian elms (U. davidiana var. japonica and U. pumila)
