A deciduous shrub, to around 3m high, with a rounded habit and maple-like, palmately lobed green leaves that turn orange and red in autumn. Flat, lace-cap flowerheads, with small white flowers in the centre and larger sterile flowers around the edges, are produced in late spring, and are followed by translucent golden-orange berries
