A clump-forming rhizomatous perennial 30cm high, with deciduous, narrowly ovate, spiny-edged, mid-green leaves, and flowers with sepals of pale lilac-pink edged with darker rose-pink, and widely open, white-spurred petals also of pale lilac-pink edged with darker rose-pink, so that the flowers appear to be semi-double, in spring; Epimedium leaves may be used for their nests by leaf-cutting bees
