An evergreen, rhizomatous perennial with rosettes of modified leaf stems called 'phyllodes' which function as insect-catching tubular pitchers with hooded lids. These strong pitchers are pale green, veined with dark red and have a pale green and dark red veined lid. Flowers are orange with drooping petals, and emerge from the top of the stalks in spring
