This plant is listed as an invasive non-native species in Northern Ireland – see Cultivation section for details. A vigorous aquatic perennial, with branching stems to 90cm long. Whorls of fine leaves grow along stems that form dense mats on the water surface. Small white flowers borne on thin stems are held just above the water in late spring, and sometimes again in autumn. Usually sold as an aquarium plant
