An upright, evergreen shrub to about 2m, with fine, dark branches and small, leathery, dark green leaves turning dark bronze in autumn; stems and leaf undersides covered in fine, silvery hairs. In late spring produces small, yellow, fragrant, star-shaped flowers, followed by dark red berries in autumn
