A rounded, deciduous thorny shrub to 1.5m in height, with mid-green, glossy leaves. Clusters of single, vivid red, cup-shaped flowers are produced in spring on bare branches, followed, in autumn, by aromatic green fruits ripening to yellow. These can be used to make jams and jellies but please see notes on toxicity for further advice
