An evergreen shrub to 3m high, with grey-brown bark and small, elliptic, leathery green leaves with sparse, fine silvery hairs on the undersides. In late spring and early summer, flat clusters of small, fragrant, funnel-shaped waxy white flowers are produced at the tips of the stems. These are followed by small round berries that turn red and then black as they mature
