A deciduous shrub, to around 3m high, with maple-like, palmately lobed dark green leaves that turn orange and red in autumn. Flat, lace-cap flowerheads, with small white flowers in the centre and larger sterile flowers around the edges, are produced in late spring, and are followed by clear golden-yellow berries, darker and translucent when ripe
