A rounded, deciduous, thorny shrub about 1.2m in height, with mid-green, glossy leaves. Clusters of large, single, vivid crimson-red, cup-shaped flowers are produced in spring on bare branches, followed, in autumn, by fragrant yellow fruits. These can be used to make jams and jellies but please see notes on toxicity for further advice
