Leek, autumn and winter trial 2026

Objectives and purpose of the trial

This trial will look specifically at leeks (Allium porrum), which have not been reviewed by the RHS since 2015. Sown in spring, they develop steadily through summer and autumn, providing reliable harvests throughout the colder months. They can also be lifted earlier as sweet, tender baby leeks, adding to their versatility in the kitchen and garden. This trial at RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey, gives the RHS Trials team the chance to assess a wide range of cultivars, including some current award holders. The strongest performers will be recognised with the RHS Recommended: Award of Garden Merit.
