It's all coming up roses at RHS Gardens this summer

With rose season now in full swing, RHS Gardens has a selection of stunning rose gardens to see the very best of the iconic summer blooms.

Visitors can delight in the sight and scent of thousands of the iconic plants, gain inspiration for their own patches and revel in dedicated festivals for the nation's favourite flower.

From RHS Garden Rosemoor’s iconic Queen’s Mother Rose Garden, the Modern Rose Garden at RHS Hyde Hall and the 4,000 roses in RHS Garden Wisley’s Bowes-Lyon Rose Garden, endless roses and cultivars are waiting to be discovered. The RHS is sharing the best places to see roses across the five gardens.

RHS Garden Rosemoor, North Devon

Visitors looking for an idyllic, scented stroll can visit the spectacular RHS Garden Rosemoor, home to one of the UK’s largest rose collections. The iconic Devonshire Garden is home to two dedicated gardens brimming with more than 2,000 roses and at least 200 different cultivars. The Shrub Rose Garden celebrates traditional roses and timeless elegance. Stand-out cultivars include the Rosa Rosemoor (‘Austough’) AGM – named after the garden.  In the Queen Mother's Rose Garden, hybrid tea and floribunda roses are arranged by colour. Visitors can celebrate the beautiful blooms at RHS Rosemoor’s Festival of Roses (15 June – 14 July) and enjoy the much-loved Rose Weekend, with free guided walks around the garden, rose growing advice and live music (21 – 23 June).

RHS Garden Hyde Hall, Essex

For those looking for a stunning display of summer roses, RHS Garden Hyde Hall has long been known for its flamboyant collection, which thrives in the hilltop gardens' heavy clay soil. Its Rose Garden is a showcase of formally grown roses and peaks in June. Six colour-coordinated beds burst with David Austin modern shrub roses in a rainbow of hues, surrounded by Hyde Hall's immaculate lawns. Garden loves can discover the English roses planted in three colour combinations that harmonise with the adjacent Herbaceous Border – warm oranges and yellows; cool white, cream and soft lemon; and rich, dark pinks and reds. Beautiful English climbing roses adorn obelisks in the corners of each bed adding to the gardens classic charm.

RHS Garden Wisley, Surrey

Those looking for a contemporary take on a rose garden can discover the beautiful  Bowes-Lyon Rose Garden at RHS Garden Wisley. Along with 4,000 roses, the garden also offers  5,000 herbaceous perennials and shrubs, inspiring ideas for combining roses with other plants. Garden lovers can drink in a glorious selection of colours and scents with eye-catching roses, including Rosa For Your Eyes Only, Rosa Rhapsody in Blue for its unusual bright purple colour and Rosa Brother Cadfael ('Ausglobe'). This David Austin English rose repeat-flowers, producing fragrant, peony-like blooms from late spring into autumn.  Roses can also be spotted elsewhere across the 240-acre garden, including in the charming Cottage Garden.

RHS Garden Bridgewater, Salford

RHS Garden Bridgewater offers a host of places to see roses this summer for those looking to spot a wide variety of the beautiful blooms. Those looking for highly scented roses can visit the spectacular Paradise Garden at RHS Garden Bridgewater, where climbing and rambling roses help transport visitors to warmer climes, including rambler Rosa ‘Veilchenblau’ AGM and its vivid violet flowers. Elsewhere, the Bee and Butterfly Garden is home to a selection of roses irresistible to pollinators, including the pure white Rosa Starlight Symphony. Other roses across the 154-acre garden include the beautiful, soft pink semi-double flowers of Rosa The Generous Gardener (‘Ausdrawn’) AGM trained romantically around the porch of Garden Cottage.

RHS Garden Harlow Carr, North Yorkshire

Roses bring plenty of fabulous colour and scent to  RHS Garden Harlow Carr which is providing guests with plentiful inspiration this summer. Nestled between the garden entrance and Learning Centre, more than 30 rose cultivars border a new pathway allowing visitors to wander among the blooms and breathe in the exquisite fragrance. The host of stunning roses are planted in breathtaking drifts of colour, from red and pink, through apricot, to yellow and white. Among the selection the rich burgundy Rosa Darcey Bussell (‘Ausdecorum’) AGM, beautiful white Rosa Desdemona (‘Auskindling’) and lovely orange Rosa Lady of Shalott (‘Ausnyson’) AGM.
