Hannah Durose

Hannah Durose assists the Orchid Registrars, Julian Shaw and Clare Pritchard, providing administrative support and processing orchid registrations

What do you do?

When a new orchid is accepted into the register, it’s my job to produce the registration confirmation and invoice documents and keep a record of the payments received. I also send digital certificates if requested.

I answer general queries around orchid registration, and help keep the digital image archive up-to-date. On occasion I also help with adding entries into the register.

“I want each registrant to feel they have received excellent, personal service by the orchid registration team.”

Why is your team’s research important?

Orchids are sold all over the world, and are cultivated and shown by hobbyists and nurseries alike. By having an accurate register, we can help to maintain stability in cultivated plant naming – something that benefits plant breeders and buyers alike. Additionally, hybrids that are in the register are eligible for entry into shows and to receive awards.

Achievements

During my 25 years in this role as of 2026, as a team we have added over 92,377 entries into the orchid register, and I have sent out more confirmation documents and certificates than I can number.
