Yana Konoplin

Yana is a Plant Health Advisor who diagnoses the causes of member’s plant problems and provides a relevant advice.

What do you do?

My work includes providing expert advice on plant diseases, garden insects, herbivores and other wildlife to RHS members, colleagues and wider audiences through RHS shows and Hilltop live talks. I also contribute to the RHS’s education and training initiatives by teaching student horticulturists and delivering courses for the public. Additionally, my role includes handling plant samples and producing written content such as pathology, entomology and fungi profiles for the RHS website, as well as articles for The Garden magazine.

“What motivates me in my role is my curiosity and love of nature. I find great satisfaction in researching, learning and discovering something new almost every day, while sharing knowledge and providing advice to RHS members.”

Why is your team’s research important?

Every garden has the potential to play a vital role in supporting nature and the environment. As advisors and plant health scientists, we promote and contribute to the idea of encouraging wildlife in gardens, while advocating for less harmful control methods when addressing garden challenges.
