The Water Spout

Spa Gardens

Inspiration for the garden comes from the numerous water spouts and natural springs that emerge from granite rock all over the Malvern Hills. They provide fresh drinking water and generate local pride in the beautiful, natural hillside environment. The spouts are often protected by walls, which are built from the local stone, so that the free-flowing water can be easily collected. The movement and sound of water in the garden adds depth of engagement and enjoyment by the visitor.

The planting leads the eye up the garden to the spout, and the stream returns the focus to the path as it tumbles away into the ground. Key plants include Crataegus succulenta ‘Jubilee’, Amelanchier lamarckii, Viburnum opulus compactum, Erica carnea and marginal wildflowers such as the ragged robin, forget-me-not and the camas lily.

The garden provides a gentle, restful retreat from a busy, fast-moving world.
