The Habit of Living – A Garden In Support of Diabetes UK

Show Gardens
This small, beautiful private garden has been designed for use by patients, visitors and staff at a Diabetes Centre. It aims to raise the profile of the charity Diabetes UK and highlight the scale of the condition, which affects more people than cancer and dementia combined.

The design references the journey made by someone newly diagnosed to a point where they are able to manage their condition well. A dark and difficult-to-navigate path is surrounded by plants in tones of plum and purple. Set along the path is a seating area clad with light and dark porcelain representing the highs and lows of managing the condition. Beyond it, the path becomes wider and easier to follow and the planting becomes softer with lighter hues of blues and whites.

Sculptural metal graphs reflect the continuous monitoring of blood glucose levels, while water-feature jets symbolise the frequency of diagnosis.

Other sponsers include: MJL Garden Design, Maze Rattan Ltd and Pertemps Network.
