The Platinum Jubilee Garden

A new permanent garden is being created in the heart of the Three Counties Showground honouring the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The garden seeks to create a lasting reminder of her reign and features some of Her Majesty’s favourite plants, as well as others named in her and her family’s honour.

The Platinum Jubilee Garden is being officially opened on Friday 6 May and features a tree that has been planted in the centre of the garden, as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy campaign. An immersive space, the garden is arranged as a quatrefoil, with wooden raised beds retaining the planting, surrounded by a dry stone wall. Low seating is incorporated so that visitors can take a moment to sit and enjoy the scents, sounds and colours of their surroundings. A wooden arbour along one axis is clothed in fragrant climbing roses, providing a scented walkway through the garden.

The planting plan was designed by RHS Malvern Festival lead Jess Russell-Perry, who has worked closely with apprentices Theo Clifford and Kierran Phelps from the Three Counties Grounds Team, and are studying at Pershore College. While being mentored by the Three Counties Agricultural Society’s Head Gardener Steve Kilminster, they surveyed and cleared the site and are managing the garden’s planting and ongoing maintenance.
