Greenfingers Charity garden rebuilt at a children’s hospice in Sheffield

The Greenfingers Charity Together Garden finds a new home at a children’s hospice in Sheffield after RHS Flower Show Wentworth Woodhouse debut in 2025

The Greenfingers Charity made a heartfelt debut at the RHS Wentworth Woodhouse show in 2025 with the Together Garden, designed by Phil Hirst and Joanne Charlton. With its flowing layout, lush planting and thoughtful touches, the garden was created to offer a space for reflection, connection and comfort.

Curved timber benches invite families to sit and spend time together, while a custom-built canopy provides shelter. Sculptural elements in the garden represent hands held in unity – a powerful symbol of support and togetherness.

After the show, Greenfingers teamed up with Jus Landscapes and the design team to carefully relocate every plant and feature to its new home at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice. The garden now sits just outside one of the hospice’s end-of-life bedrooms, offering a peaceful spot where families can make memories and find moments of calm.

Boyd Douglas-Davies, Chair of Greenfingers Charity, said: “We are incredibly proud to have played a part in the creation and relocation of the Together Garden, an extraordinary space of comfort and solace in the moments that matter most. From its moving debut at RHS Wentworth Woodhouse to its new forever home at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, the Together Garden embodies everything Greenfingers stands for: compassion, creativity, and connection through nature. We are truly grateful to designer Phil Hirst, co-creator Joanne Charlton, Jus Landscapes and everyone whose hands and hearts helped bring this vision to life.”

Seeing the garden start to take root in a place where it will provide peace and precious memories during end-of-life care is deeply humbling.

What makes the Together Garden truly special is its purpose. It wasn’t designed for children, but specifically for bereaved parents and loved ones. Phil and Joanne embraced the emotional depth of the project, creating a space that’s gentle, meaningful and full of compassion.

Designer Phil Hirst reflected: “It was a real privilege to be asked by the Greenfingers Charity to design a garden for Bluebell Wood in Sheffield. Many of the charity’s gardens are centred around children, but this time the focus was different – to offer parents and families a space to process grief and find comfort at an unimaginably difficult time. Showing the garden at RHS Wentworth Woodhouse gave us a rare opportunity to share that story with the public, and we are very proud to see it begin to take root and blossom in its forever home.”

The garden is now a lasting gift.  A place where nature and care come together to support those going through the hardest times. The Together Garden joins the hospice’s much-loved outdoor spaces, enriching them with a place of peace, reflection and togetherness that will endure for years to come.
