Burma Skincare Initiative

While being transported to a space rich in Burmese horticulture and culture, visitors to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show can also learn about an extraordinary skincare partnership. Its experts support Burmese healthcare workers treating adults and children with terrible skin conditions.

The need to tackle skin disease in Burma (also known as Myanmar), has never been more acute. It is home to approximately 54 million people across 135 ethnic groups, with almost 2 million internally displaced persons. It has one of the world’s poorest healthcare systems. The Burma Skincare Initiative charity’s work in Myanmar is providing a model of how skincare can be provided remotely and delivered locally by healthcare workers.

As the world is plunged more deeply into disruption due to climate change and man-made disasters, the Burma Skincare Initiative has a powerful message to share about the importance of skin disease and its management globally.
