The Viking Cruises Garden of Inspiration

A garden redolent of the Mediterranean; succulents, lofty palms, and a fruiting orange tree combine with a mosaic covered wall inspired by Gaudi and his distinctive style

Artisan Gardens

From the show

  • At its centre stands a wall and seating area covered in a dazzling broken tiled mosaic
  • Three different kinds of palm – Phoenix dactylifera, Syagrus romanzoffiana and Washingtonia robusta
  • A cooling water rill fed from copper pipes which runs around the edge of the terrace containing elements of the mosaic
  • Pale rocks used as a mulch around planting tie in the rough back wall and larger paved terraced area
  • Contemporary lounger stands on a terrace paving which echoes the mosaic tiled wall

At the garden

This garden is inspired by the work of Antoni Gaudí and the Modern Arts Movement in Barcelona, one of the key Mediterranean destinations for Viking Cruises. The garden pays homage to the work of Antoni Gaudí, his organic Art Nouveau style and his use of mosaic, stone and texture.

Date palm, citrus and architectural arid plants and succulents are planted in the garden along with a range of Mediterranean perennials including orange-toned Isoplexis canariensis.
