What to look out for in the Great Pavilion at RHS Chelsea 2026

Look forward to a feast of floral brilliance in the Great Pavilion at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2026. Floral Development Manager Helen Boem shares what’s coming up

Raymond Evison Clematis

The Raymond Evison Clematis 2026 Chelsea exhibit draws inspiration from The Book of Ebenezer Le Page by Guernsey‑born author Gerald Basil Edwards. It captures the life and spirit of its fictional protagonist, a tomato grower and fisherman who spent his life in The Vale, Guernsey – home to the Guernsey Clematis Nursery.

The exhibit will evoke Guernsey’s coastal shoreline, featuring Ebenezer’s fisherman’s hut complete with locally made, willow fishing baskets, crab and lobster pots and traditional tomato‑growing equipment. Ten boats laden with clematis in bloom sit within a sea of blue, purple and white flowers, while others are moored to a serpentine, wooden walkway that visitors can explore.

Three new clematis will be launched at the show: Clematis Ithemba™, named to support the Red Cross Children’s Hospital Trust; Clematis Queen’s Nurse™, raising awareness of the historic Queen’s Nurse charity and its link to the National Garden Scheme; and Clematis Eliza™, named after Ebenezer’s great love, Liza Queripel.

Plant Heritage

In 2026, the dedicated Plant Heritage Zone returns, featuring six National Plant Collections along with some spring-interest, specialist collection plants displayed on the Plant Heritage stand. The collections that will feature in 2026 are:

  • Jonathan Sheppard – National Collection of cosmos
  • Luci Skinner –  National Collection of scented pelargoniums
  • The Brantwood Trust – National Collection of Wisteria
  • The Botanic Nursery – National Collection of Digitalis
  • National Collection of Rubus spp.
  • Hogarth Hostas will also be exhibiting a collection of miniature hostas.

Plant Heritage will be bringing more National Plant Collections to the show
Summerdale Nursery

Summerdale Nursery last exhibited at RHS Chelsea prior to the Covid pandemic. They specialise in woodland plants and primulas and we are very excited that they will be returning to RHS Chelsea this year with a small display of Primula auricula cultivars – bringing back a plant group that we haven’t seen at the show for a long time.

These dainty plants will be showcased in a traditional auricula theatre, as they explain, “For Chelsea 2026, our aim is to display a wide range of Primula auricula cultivars, using traditional auricula theatres but in an informal setting, such as might be seen in any home or garden. We have opted for a small area of staging, giving visitors the opportunity to appreciate the exquisite beauty of these plants at eye level. A central column, designed to simulate limewashed walls, gives height and the traditional theatres will hang on each face. The base level will be dressed with slate paving and a second tier, dressed with golden gravel, will feature pots, long toms and bowls to create many levels.

They will be creating an immersive, walk‑through exhibit designed in collaboration with Peter Dowle, Leaf Creative. They are one of the major displays in the Pavilion and will host large-scale trees and inspiring underplanting.
