The Way Of Saint James

People’s Choice Best Show Garden

Planting and statue overlooking water
Pilgrim statue sits among lush planting overlooking the water and beyond

This silver medal-winning Show Garden, a tribute to the forests of northwest Spain and the pilgrim’s journey to Santiago de Compostela, has won the hearts of the public voters. A statue overlooks a natural pond and gentle waterfall surrounded by woodland plants such as Woodwardia radicans and Blechnum spicant. While to one side of the garden, fragrant climbers scramble over metal arches which frame the Santiago cross.

The Making Sense Garden

People’s Choice Best Get Started Garden

In this silver medal-winning Get Started Garden, a curved pathway leads visitors through the sensory garden and down into a sunken seating area. Created for people with smell and taste disorders, other senses of sight, sound and touch are brought to the fore. Planting is relaxed and natural with a rich, vibrant colour palette.

The pretty charm of this silver-gilt medal-winning Resilient Pocket Planting space wasn’t just a hit with the moths it was designed to attract. Festival-goers loved the wildflower planting bed, filled with nectar-rich and fragrant flowers, and gently swaying grasses. A humane ‘moth trap’ serves as a focal point, to show these nocturnal heroes up close.
