The Norfolk Weave Border: Kind to Soil, Nature and Soul

A celebration of North Norfolk’s traditional crafts and heritage, this nature-friendly design takes visitors on a journey from inland wildflower meadows and tangled hedgerows to windswept dunes

Long Borders

The border

The border moves away from traditional flat surfaces. Instead, it incorporates mounded berms and shallow swales, which capture rainwater and filter it slowly to protect soil health during summer droughts or heavy downpours. Built using reclaimed red bricks, these features pay homage to the iconic decorative chimneys of Norfolk’s stately homes.

A central willow-woven planter hosts a sculptural Pinus sylvestris ‘Watereri’, while a low ‘crinkle-crankle’ hurdle weaves through the border. The naturalistic planting combines wildflowers with resilient performers such as Scabiosa, creating a mosaic of varied textures inspired by coast and meadow that boost soil health, increase biodiversity and support pollinators.

About the designers – Katy Noon and Kate Eves

Katy’s love of gardening began in early childhood and grew through hands on experience at RHS Wisley and the National Trust, where she worked across plant production, garden maintenance, volunteer management, and digital projects. Alongside roles in office and retail environments, she developed strong organisational and people skills. Now running her own garden design business, she combines creativity and practicality to design sustainable, personality-filled gardens, driven by a passion for helping people connect with nature through design, coaching, and practical gardening.

After a long career in marketing, Kate found grounding and healing through gardening during a period of anxiety, sparking a career change. Over five years, she trained and worked professionally, gaining an RHS Diploma and a Distinction in Garden Design from the Norfolk School of Gardening, and completing projects across North Norfolk. Her work focuses on “nature‑kind” gardens that prioritise soil health, biodiversity and regeneration, with the aim of creating soulful, sustainable spaces that nurture both nature and people.

The garden legacy

After the show the heart of this border will continue to grow as part of Aldborough Primary Schools Wildlife Garden, as a wonderful opportunity to help the next generation create their own wild space.
