Are you keen to do the right thing in your garden but not sure what to do when? If so, A Year in your Garden Spring is the course for you!
This series of seasonal standalone workshops will increase your knowledge of the gardening activities that need to be carried out in each season to ensure your plants grow healthily and you can keep on top of gardening tasks.
Hannah Houlding and Elspeth MacDonald, both members of the RHS Rosemoor Curatorial Team, will take you on a seasonal whistle-stop tour of techniques, tips, tricks and advice about what tasks to do in spring. You will be shown a number of practical demonstrations during this guided garden walk.
Spring topics include – planting and dividing perennials, basic shrub pruning, cutting back and tidying your plants after the winter, plus other topics of seasonal interest.
Tutors: Hannah Houlding has been part of the Curatorial team at RHS Rosemoor for 2 years, starting as a student with the Nursery and Propagation team and now working as a horticulturalist with Lady Anne's team. Hannah is particularly interested in plants from the Mediterranean, aiming to explore how we can adapt our plant selection and cultivation techniques for climate resilient gardens.
Elspeth MacDonald is part of the Formal Gardens team at RHS Rosemoor. She has been gardening for about 5 years, attaining the RHS Level 2 in Practical Horticulture at Cannington College, and a City and Guilds Level 2 in Floristry at the City of Bristol University. She is currently responsible for looking after the Hot Garden, and her favourite plant is the climbing chocolate vine, Akebia.
Location and arrival information: The tutor will meet you on the Visitor Centre terrace and the workshop will take place entirely outside in the garden. Please allow 15 minutes to park in the main visitor car park, enter the garden assemble on the Visitor Centre terrace.

For this workshop you will need:
- Your booking reference number to show to the team at the Garden Entrance.
- A notebook and pencil to make notes.
- Clothing and footwear suitable for being outdoors, appropriate to weather on the day.
