Find out how to grow plants from seed to fill your garden with colour. Growing from seed is fascinating, rewarding and also a much cheaper way to grow your plant collection. RHS Rosemoor nursery team Catherine Venn and Clare Rady will show you how to sow and grow a range of different seeds, small, medium and larger, and talk you through how to care for them as they germinate and begin to grow. There will also be an opportunity for some hands-on practical with some seeds to take home.
As well as growing from seed, taking cuttings is another way to propagate new plants from existing ones. Learn some simple cutting techniques and which popular garden plants you can propagate in this way. By the end of this session, you should have the skills and knowledge to successfully grow your own plants from seed and take some simple cuttings from your own garden.

  • Tutors:  Catherine Venn and Clare Rady propagate many of the tender perennials that you see growing at RHS Rosemoor. As a team, they have been growing plants from cuttings and seeds at RHS Rosemoor for several years, as well as contributing to the overall work in the Formal Garden. This year they are sharing their experience in two halves, in this Beginners workshop on May, followed by an Upskiller workshop in August.
  • Location and arrival information: This workshop will take place in the Peter Buckley Learning Centre. Please allow 15 minutes to park in the main visitor car park, enter the garden assemble and make your way to the classroom.
