This seasonal walk and talk will take you through the gardening jobs that need to happen now and through the summer, to ensure your plants thrive and your garden continues to look healthy as the seasons progress.  
RHS Gardener, Emma McFarline, will take you on a seasonal tour of techniques, tips, tricks and advice about gardening jobs that need to be done in the summer months. You will be shown several practical demonstrations during this guided garden walk.

Summer topics include plants for summer display, staking herbaceous perennials, extending the flowering season, summer containers, plus other topics of seasonal interest.

Tutor: Emma McFarline is a gardener at RHS Rosemoor within the Formal Garden team, looking after the Cottage and Herb Gardens in particular, and doing a lot of work with roses including prining and as part of the Rose Festival. Emma studied for a Foundation Degree in Horticulture through the University of Ulster, following which she completed the Historic and Botanical Gardens Training Programme at Oxford Botanic Garden and Arboretum. She received the Elizabeth Hess scholarship to work as a student at Tresco Abbey Gardens for a year, where she stayed on for a further six months as propagator before coming to RHS Rosemoor in 2021. 

Location and arrival information: The tutor will meet you on the Visitor Centre terrace and the workshop will take place entirely outside in the garden. Please allow 15 minutes to park in the main visitor car park, enter the garden assemble on the Visitor Centre terrace.  

Catering: This workshop does not include catering. You are welcome to visit the onsite catering before or after your workshop. Full details of the available outlets and what they offer are on the RHS Rosemoor Food and Drink page of the RHS website.

For this workshop you will need:
  • Your booking reference number to show to the team at the Garden Entrance. 
  • A notebook and pencil to make notes.
  • Clothing and footwear suitable for being outdoors, appropriate to weather on the day.
