Wildflower meadows and wild areas of your garden are hugely important for pollinating insects and other wildlife. RHS Rosemoor has several areas of established wildflower meadow, which will form the basis of this session.

Horticulturalist Alex Paines will guide you through the wildflower meadows at Rosemoor as they approach their seasonal peak, covering how the meadows were created and how you could establish one at home. You will also learn about their annual maintenance routines and the tools involved. This session will also cover the benefits of a healthy meadow for people, plants and the planet, and how they can work to boost local biodiversity.

Tutor: Alex Paines is part of the curatorial team at RHS Rosemoor, working in the Formal Gardens. He is keenly interested in garden biodiversity, wildlife and sustainable gardening. Alex is a member of the RHS Biodiversity Group, RHS Green Group, and actively involved in various biodiversity projects at RHS Rosemoor.

Location and arrival information: The tutor will meet you on the Visitor Centre terrace and the workshop will take place entirely outside in the garden. Please allow 15 minutes to park in the main visitor car park, enter the garden and assemble on the Visitor Centre terrace.

Catering: This workshop does not include catering. You are welcome to visit the onsite catering before or after your workshop. Full details of the available outlets and what they offer are on the RHS Rosemoor Food and Drink page of the RHS website.

For this workshop you will need:

  • Your booking reference number to show to the team at the Garden Entrance.
  • A notebook and pencil to make notes.
  • Clothing suitable for being outdoors, appropriate to weather on the day.
  • Closed-toed shoes (not flipflops or sandals)
Skill Level: Upskiller – I have mastered the basics of gardening and would like to build my horticultural knowledge and skills.
