There is nothing more cheering than a big bunch of homegrown sweet peas. Spend an afternoon learning how to get the best from this most popular annual flower. You will learn about choosing seeds, ground preparation, sowing, training and support methods for growing strong plants to give you flowers for cutting and height in borders right through the summer.
Viv Hunt, independent gardener and garden consultant, will demonstrate a standard seed sowing technique, then you will have the opportunity to plant several different cultivars of sweetpea to grow in your own garden. You will go home with all the information you need to ensure that they do well.
Tutor: Viv Hunt was previously Head Gardener at an RHS partner garden in Kent. She has trained many younger gardeners through the Professional Gardeners Guild training scheme and presented regular workshops for amateur gardeners. She is now a garden consultant working in private gardens in Devon and the South East.
Location and arrival information: The workshop will take place mostly in the Peter Buckley Learning Centre, with some time also spent outside in the Garden. Please allow 15 minutes to park in the main visitor car park, enter the garden and get to the Learning Centre.
Catering: Tea / coffee and biscuits will be available in the classroom.
For this workshop you will need:
