Rag rugging refers to an old British craft where people use hessian sacking and old clothing and fabric to make cosy rugs for the floor. It was incredibly widespread during the Victorian times when lower income families embraced rag rugging as a way to make the most out everything they had. Rag rugging has changed a lot over the years - nowadays it's a textile art that can be used across a whole spectrum of projects!

In this beginners workshop you will learn the art of peg loom weaving to use reclaimed materials, that may otherwise have ended up landfill, to create something new! Join us for a fun-filled day and create your very own handwoven rug to take home. Choose your own colour scheme from our stunning range of woollen blanket yarn and have fun experimenting with patterns to craft a one-of-a-kind rug. With expert guidance, you’ll leave with an approx. 90 x 60cm rug and the skills to keep weaving at home.

Tutor: Elspeth Jackson founded Ragged Life in 2014 after noticing more and more people wanted to try the craft of rag rugging. Having been learning the craft since she was a child, Elspeth is the perfect tutor to guide you on the start of you rag rugging journey!
