Spend a day exploring the woodlands at RHS Garden Rosemoor, including several areas not normally open to the public. RHS Garden Rosemoor owns and manages extensive woodlands, including coniferous woods, and mixed deciduous and distinctive Atlantic rainforests. During late April and May, the bluebell woods are at their peak, the trees have fresh new leaves, and it is a great time of year to see the woodlands.

There is the chance to visit different areas of woodland that are part of the wider Rosemoor grounds. The morning will be spent on the Visitor Centre side of Rosemoor, then after a picnic lunch, we’ll head over to Lady Anne’s Garden to see the bluebells and then via the Arboretum to the semi-ancient natural woodlands beyond.

During the course of the day, we’ll be walking several miles. In each area, you’ll learn more about the tree species and wildlife that lives there.

Tutor: Rod Knight has been working at RHS Rosemoor for 20 years, during which time he has built up a wealth of expertise in his specialist area as an arborist. In 2003, Rob began volunteering with the National Trust at Brownsham. He began his training with chainsaw, followed by Horticulture and Practical Horticulture, Royal Foresty Level 2, professional tree inspection and a multitude of other arboriculture and horticulture related qualifications and certificates. Rob is passionate about the woodlands at RHS Rosemoor and keen to share this passion and the woodlands with others. He is also one of RHS Rosemoor’s expert climbing team, able to work in the trees from several metres above ground!

Location and arrival information: The workshop will take place outside in the Garden, after an introductory session in the Learning Centre. Please allow 15 minutes to park in the main visitor car park, enter the garden and get to the Learning Centre.
