Blueprints of Nature - Botanical Cyanotypes by Jo Purdue is an exhibition of traditional and wet cyanotype prints, created using local flora including seed heads collected from RHS Rosemoor.

The process involves placing the flora onto light-sensitive paper. Once exposed to UV light, the areas exposed to light turn blue, while protected areas remain white creating the image.

Cyanotypes are known for their deep blues, but Jo likes to change the colour palette by adding things like vinegar, lemon juice, and turmeric before exposing. Jo loves the experimental nature of this technique where the results are often surprising, sometimes disappointing and always unique. They are a fascinating blend of science and art!

Jo Purdue has been showing her art, including paintings and cyanotypes, for about four years. She has collaborated with other artists to hold joint exhibitions and has had a stall at various craft fairs and events. this is her first time exhibiting in the PBLC Exhibition Room at RHS Rosemoor as we are delighted to have the opportunity to show her work.
