    Spring bulbs and forced bulbs

Bulbs are a wonderful way to add some colour and scent to your home and garden at a bleak time of year.  In this workshop we will look at the range of bulbs available for winter and spring colour, focussing on those that are easier to grow and suitable for containers. Learn how to choose bulbs and good combinations, how to plant them, and how to look after and maintain them through the season.

Workshop tutor Viv Hunt will also guide you through a practical activity to plant a bulb lasagne using a mix of different bulb varieties planted in layers.

Tutor: Viv Hunt was previously Head Gardener at an RHS partner garden in Kent. She has trained many younger gardeners through the Professional Gardeners Guild training scheme and presented regular workshops for amateur gardeners. She is now a garden consultant working in private gardens in Devon and the South East.

Location and arrival information: The workshop will be split between the Peter Buckley Learning Centre, and outside in the Garden. Please allow 15 minutes to park in the main visitor car park, enter the garden and get to the Learning Centre.

Catering: Tea / coffee and biscuits will be available in the classroom at the start of the session. You are welcome to visit the onsite catering before or after your workshop. Full details of the available outlets and what they offer are on the RHS Rosemoor Food and Drink page of the RHS website.

For this workshop you will need:

  • Your booking reference number to show to the team at the Garden Entrance.
  • A notebook and pencil to make notes.
  • A camera to take photographs to support your learning.
  • Clothing suitable for being indoors and outdoors, appropriate to weather on the day, and closed-toed shoes.
Skill Level: Beginner – I am eager to try growing, keen to learn, and to develop my experience and confidence.
