Special Event
RHS Garden Bridgewater is delighted to once again hose the Streamside Qipao Show organised by The Greater Manchester Chinese Community. The qipao, the most recognized Chinese garment in the West, evolved from the Qing Dynasty's "flag girl's robe" and became popular in the 1940s and 50s after incorporating Western elements. It reflects the balance between traditional and modern Chinese femininity—reserved yet confident. Join us for a day celebrating this traditional outfit and learn more about the fashions, styles and culture of traditional Chinese dress, through conversations and workshops as well as watch groups from across the North compete. Alongside the competition and opportunity to learn more about traditional Chinese fashion there will be a Dragon dance through the garden to open the event and opportunity to have a go yourself in our Lion Dance workshop. 12noon Dragon Dance - starting at The Welcome building, to the Middlewood event space marquee, and then the dragon will travel around Middlewood and down the Chinese streamside garden. 12:15 Speeches - in the Middlewood Event space marquee 12:45 Performances start 1:30pm - 2:30pm Lion dance workshop - in the Wellbeing Garden 3pm Awards 3:30pm Close of event
