As autumn turns to winter, plants decay, leaving behind wonderfully architectural and sculptural forms, viewed against crisp winter skies.
In this class, we will work a study of the beautiful forms of either honesty or eryngium seed heads. We will explore a wide range of materials to convey the plant textures, including metal threads, silk gimps, applied papers, mesh ribbons, beads, sequins, applied fabrics etc.
The embroidery will be worked on a ground of fine silk organza, giving a sense of the seed heads being suspended in space.
The finished pieces can be mounted into special picture frames which allow the work to be suspended over a background, further enhancing the sense of depth.
You will be provided with a full kit, which includes all the materials required to complete the design, together with comprehensive illustrated instructions.

Jenny is a professional hand embroiderer and tutor whose passion for embroidery began in childhood, inspired by a family background steeped in craftsmanship. She trained at the prestigious Royal School of Needlework, graduating with distinction in 1996 and receiving awards for goldwork and silk shading. Following a decade as a senior tutor and studio embroiderer, eventually becoming Assistant Head of the Studio, Jenny established her own freelance embroidery business. Based in Surrey, she now works full-time from her home studio and is widely recognised for her expertise in whitework, goldwork, stumpwork, metal thread embroidery, and embroidery design.
