Horticulture
Following on from our Introduction to Allotment course, you will investigate Allotments further, focusing on seasonal sowing and soil preparation for the winter period ahead, along with the selection of suitable green manures such as phacelia, mustard, and clover. Autumn and winter maintenance jobs, such as selecting glasshouses, cold frames and growing units; light, heaters and ventilation; will be covered. The selection of fruit and vegetables for storage, and the requirements for doing so successfully. Suitable winter crops, such as kale and broccoli, will also be discussed. Storage and selection of seed will also be covered, along with planning the allotment for the following year. We will also look at seasonal pests and diseases, covering their control and prevention. Tutor: Andrew Willocks, RHS Please note: In this workshop, there will be contact with compost, so covering up of cuts and scratches is advised.
