Find out how we grow a range of plants for next year’s summer borders in our nursery at RHS Garden Rosemoor. This demonstration will look at selecting and taking cuttings, how to root them and their winter care, so that you have new plants ready for planting after the last frosts next spring.

We will also look at seed sowing of biennials and other plants that can be grown from seed sown in the late summer. Find out how to care for your seedlings at this time of year and through the winter to give early spring colour in your garden.

By the end of the session, you will have all the skills and top tips needed to propagate plants from garden cuttings and seed, ensuring your garden looks fantastic next spring.

Tutors Catherine Venn and Claire Rady propagate many of the tender perennials that you see growing at RHS Rosemoor. As a team, they have been growing plants from cuttings and seeds at RHS Rosemoor for several years, and have also contributed to the overall work in the Formal Garden. This year, they are sharing their experience in two halves: a Beginners workshop in May, followed by an Upskilling workshop in August.

Location and arrival information: This workshop will take place in the Peter Buckley Learning Centre. Please allow 15 minutes to park in the main visitor car park, enter the garden assembly and make your way to the classroom.

Catering: This workshop does not include catering. You are welcome to visit the onsite catering before or after your workshop. Full details of the available outlets and what they offer are on the RHS Rosemoor Food and Drink page of the RHS website.

For this workshop, you will need:
  • Your booking reference number to show to the team at the Garden Entrance.
  • A notebook and a pencil to make notes.
  • Closed-toed shoes (no flipflops or sandals)
Upskiller (currently intermediate) – I have mastered the basics of gardening and would like to build on horticultural knowledge and skills.
