RHS Horticulturalist, Ian Prigmore, will teach you the techniques and key points for successful fruit tree grafting. In this workshop, you’ll learn about the theory behind grafting and what it takes to make a successful graft. You’ll also learn the aftercare and maintenance required to keep your newly grafted tree happy and healthy.
The course will cover a wide range of grafting skills for fruit trees. We will discuss the merits of grafting plants, the importance of selecting a suitable, healthy rootstock and a compatible scion, and the selection of tools to use.
During the session, participants will graft and take away two apple trees of their choosing on a dwarfing rootstock suitable for a small garden. Material will be taken from our own Bridgewater apple collection. Which variety will you choose?
Tutor: Ian Prigmore, RHS Horticulturalist. Ian manages the RHS Garden Bridgewater Orchard, the Inner Walled Garden Trained Fruit, and the national collections of Rhubarb and Goosberries. Ian has been at RHS Garden Bridgewater since its inception over 7 years ago.
Location and Arrival Information: The workshop will be in the Learning Studios, including practical activities, plus time in the garden to view successful grafts. All tools and materials will be provided.
Catering: Tea & Coffee will be provided on arrival.
For this workshop, you will need: a notebook and a pen. Suitable shoes & clothing for the weather conditions on the day
