The art of plaster bas-relief refers to a sculptural technique where designs are created to pop out slightly from a flatter background. Start your process by carefully selecting natural subjects and pressing them into clay so they can be casted in plaster. These unique pieces can be used to create a time capsule of late summer plants that will look fab all year round.

*If you wish to bring your own materials, any plant material that is carried onto site for use in workshops must be in a sealed plastic bag or container for plant health reasons. Some types of plant are strictly prohibited, and you will be contacted nearer the time regarding this.

Tutor: Rebbeca Meo has a history of working in art but dedicated herself fulltime to it in 2024. She loves to work with botanical subjects but also takes inspiration from the coast.

Arrival Information:
  • Please arrive 15 mins before the start of the workshop to allow time to register your arrival and make your way to the classroom.
  • This workshop will take place in the Clore Learning Centre, which is located at the top of the hill, adjacent to the Gardeners Rest Restaurant. There is a mobility vehicle available to transport participants to the top of the hill if necessary.
For this workshop:
  • All materials and tools are supplied.
  • There will be tea/coffee available throughout. Additionally, all the taps in the learning centre provide drinking water, so we suggest the use of a reusable water bottle throughout the day.
  • You are welcome to bring along a packed lunch, or the restaurant will be open from 10:00am to purchase food/refreshments. Please note that the restaurant can get busy during peak times, so when you arrive at the classroom, please ask a member of staff about pre-ordering.
You are welcome to stay in the gardens afterwards should you wish to have a wander round.
