Growing Gardeners - Herb Pots

Learn to grow herbs in pots and take your planted creation home. A fun, hands-on workshop for young gardeners to explore plants close-up.
 
Growing Gardeners workshops are designed for young people aged 12-17 to attend with an adult, to share a learning experience together with the focus on the young person, and encouraging their journey with plants.
 
You will be introduced to a variety of different herbs suitable for growing in containers. Choosing from a selection of herbs that are easy to grow and fun to use, you will be able to propagate your own herbs to take home in pots. Tutor Susie Hauxwell will share her horticultural knowledge and experience working with young people, demonstrating some practical skills that you will be able to try during the workshop. You will learn some different planting and growing techniques to ensure that your herbs do well and become a productive and useful addition to your garden.

Tutor: Susie Hauxwell has been working within the horticulture industry for 25 years, including 15 years working in the Curatorial Team at RHS Rosemoor. She has more recently been Programme Manager for the Horticultural Apprenticeship programme at Bicton College, and is currently running her own horticultural consultancy business. Amongst her horticultural qualifications, Susie has extensive horticultural machinery tickets, the RHS General, Advanced and Practical Certificate in Horticulture and the Master of Horticulture (RHS).

Location and arrival information: The workshop will be split between the Peter Buckley Learning Centre, and outside in the Garden. Please allow 15 minutes to park in the main visitor car park, enter the garden and get to the Learning Centre.  

Catering: Tea / coffee and biscuits will be available in the classroom at the start of the session. You are welcome to visit the onsite catering before or after your workshop. Full details of the available outlets and what they offer are on the RHS Rosemoor Food and Drink page of the RHS website.

For this workshop you will need:

• Your booking reference number to show to the team at the Garden Entrance. 
• A notebook and pencil to make notes.
• A camera to take photographs to support your learning.
• Clothing suitable for being indoors and outdoors, appropriate to weather on the day, and closed-toed shoes.

Skill Level: Growing Gardeners workshops are designed for young people aged 12-17 to attend with an adult, to share a learning experience together with the focus on the young person and encouraging their journey with plants.

Please note: the ticket price is for one young person age 12-17 to attend with an adult. Young people must not be left unaccompanied. This workshop is designed as a shared gardening experience.
