A bushy, clump-forming, tuberous perennial to around 45cm in height, with very dark green to black serrated leaves. Upward-facing, loose-looking, single bright yellow flowers, with golden yellow centres, contrast brilliantly with the dark foliage, appearing on tall, slim, dark stems from June through to October

Cultivation

Grow in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil, in full sun. Pinch out growing tips to encourage bushy plants and stake taller dahlias, see staking perennials. Pruning

deadhead spent flowers to encourage further flowering. Cut back to near ground level in autumn, before lifting and storing for the winter
